Who can apply for the Germany Opportunity Card?

Applicants can qualify through one of two routes. They can apply as skilled workers with a foreign qualification fully recognised in Germany, or they can qualify through the points system by meeting the required qualification, language, financial, and points criteria.

How many points are required for the Germany Opportunity Card?

Applicants using the points-based route need at least 6 points. Points can be awarded for factors including partial recognition of qualifications, shortage occupations, professional experience, language skills, age, previous legal residence in Germany, and an eligible spouse or partner.

Do I need a job offer for the Germany Opportunity Card?

No. A job offer is not required to obtain the Germany Opportunity Card under the job-search route. The purpose of the card is to allow eligible applicants to enter Germany and search for suitable employment.

What qualifications are required for the Germany Opportunity Card?

For the points-based route, applicants generally need a state-recognised foreign university degree or a vocational qualification that meets the applicable training requirements. Applicants with a foreign qualification fully recognised in Germany can qualify through the skilled-worker route without using the points system.

What language requirements apply to the Germany Opportunity Card?

Applicants using the points-based route generally need German at A1 level or English at B2 level at minimum. Higher German language skills can provide additional points.
