Canada Reports Over One Million Job Vacancies

According to research by Canadian Statistics, the number of people looking for jobs in Canada is at an all-time high. According to the most recent Canadian statistics on job openings, payroll, and compensation, companies in Canada are actively seeking to replace more than one million employees that were not filled in early March 2022. The number of job openings in Canada hit a record high of 1,012,900 in March, surpassing the previous high of 988,300, established in September 2021. There was a 186,400 rise in vacancies between February and March. The level of job vacuum, which compares the number of vacant positions to the total number of vacant and filled positions, is the same as the previous high of 5.9% in September.

Vacancies in hotels, food services, and retail trade increased by more than one-third. Accommodation and food service companies were trying to fill roughly 158,100 positions, while retail establishments were looking to fill approximately 109,200 positions. Job opportunities in health care, social support, and construction were at an all-time high. Employers in health care and social services wanted to fill 154,500 positions, while the construction industry wanted to employ a record 81,900 individuals.

Job vacancies increased in all provinces. The largest month-over-month increases were seen in Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Labrador. The number of job opportunities has reached an all-time high in Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. In March, there were 1.2 jobless people for every job opening, down from 1.4 in February. The reduction corresponds with a record-low unemployment rate of 5.3 percent and a nearly 87 percent core-age labor force participation rate. Labor shortages were especially acute in Quebec and British Columbia, both of which had an unemployment-to-job vacancy ratio of 0.8. A lower ratio suggests a more constrained labor market. The highest reading was 4.3 in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Because of seasonal demand, job openings have decreased for five straight months beginning in September 2021. Economic activity in Canada rises in the spring and summer and falls in the winter. Canada is expected to release employment vacancy statistics for April 2022 on June 24. The Job Vacancy and Wage Survey findings for the first quarter of 2022 will be revealed on June 21.

Migrate to Canada

Canada has a lower-than-six percent unemployment rate, with 58,900 new jobs being added per month. In a nation like Canada, there are several immigration streams dedicated to allowing people to enter for job purposes, so there are plenty of opportunities to find work and acquire a new skill. Because of the numerous opportunities, more individuals are migrating to Canada.

The Express Entry Program

There are three categories under the Express Entry Program;

Federal Skilled Workers Program: Any person who meets the requirements for language, education, and work experience meets the requirements for federal skilled worker programs. The national job classification system is used to manage work experience.

Federal Skilled Trades Program: For people who have worked in a skilled trade for at least two years in the five years before applying, as well as have the requisite language abilities in either English or French.

Canadian Experience Class: For people who have worked in Canada for at least one year and fulfill the language requirements.

Every month,  Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) send out invitations to the highest-ranking applicants.

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Except for Quebec and Nunavut, each of Canada's provinces and territories runs its own PNP program with many streams. More than 80 provincial nominee programs exist in all. PNP programs come in two varieties. Some are linked to the Express Entry system and those aren't.

Quebec

Quebec has a specific deal with the federal government that permits it to pick and choose which immigrants to accept. These are the options available to you.

  • Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program
  • Quebec Experience Program
