The Self-employed Persons Program under the Business Class Immigration is designed for self-employed individuals to live and practice their employment permanently as a self-employed individual in Canada. The program is implemented for the applicants to make significant contribution to Canada’s cultural, artistic or athletic life. Under this category of self-employed persons the farming options are also available.
Eligible categories of self-employed persons:
- Participants of cultural activities;
- Participants in athletics or
- Experienced in farm management.
Eligibility Criteria for Self-employed immigration:
- Experience of minimum two years in the respective category of self-employment
- Intention to relocate to Canada as self-employed
- Meet the minimum requirement of the program’s selection factors;
- Must clear the medical, security and other clearances’
The applicants are selected based on the below selection factors using a point system.
An applicant requires a minimum of 35 points after the assessment of the below five selection criteria in the point system in order to get selected through the program.

Experience
The minimum experience required for a self-employed person shall be prior to 5 years from the date of application and ending on the day of making a decision on the application by the IRCC.
The minimum experience is stated for cultural and athletic activities

- 2 one-year periods of self-employment in cultural or athletic activities,
- 2 one-year periods participating in a world-class level cultural or athletics’ ,
- a combination of a one-year period as in (a), and a one-year period as in (b)
The applicants are also required to clear the criminal and medical requirements for a successful application for permanent residence under the self-employed category
