Canada: Prince Edward Island Issues 157 Immigration Invitations.

The picturesque Prince Edward Island, with its stunning landscapes and vibrant communities, has been drawing immigrants from around the world, and it's no wonder why. In a recent Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on September 21, 2023, Prince Edward Island (PEI) extended a warm invitation to 157 skilled worker and entrepreneur candidates eager to make Canada their new home. This blog is your comprehensive guide to understanding the latest PEI PNP draw, including the streams, eligibility criteria, and what it means for those looking to migrate to Canada.

The PEI PNP Draw: A Closer Look

PEI's PNP draw encompassed three main streams: Labour Impact, Express Entry, and Business Impact. Here's a detailed breakdown of the invitations issued in each category:

  • Labour Impact and Express Entry Streams (153 Invitations)

In this category, 153 invitations were generously extended to candidates who met the specific criteria set by PEI. These streams cater to skilled workers and those with existing Express Entry profiles, aligning with Canada's commitment to attracting top talent.

  • Business Impact Stream (4 Invitations)

Four invitations were allocated to candidates in the Business Impact stream, with each candidate required to achieve a minimum score of 80 points. This stream is designed to encourage entrepreneurship and investment in PEI, contributing to the province's economic growth.

  • Critical Worker Stream

Under the Critical Worker Stream, invitations were issued to candidates employed by a PEI employer who met the minimum score of 55. This stream falls under Labour Impact and Express Entry and is geared towards addressing critical labor shortages in specific occupations.

The PEI PNP Journey So Far

PEI introduced its Expression of Interest (EOI) system in 2018, allowing candidates to express their interest in migrating to the province. Since its inception, the program has consistently conducted monthly draws, with a few interruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This commitment to regular draws has made PEI an attractive destination for those considering immigration to Canada.

Yearly Invitation Comparison

Taking a look back, PEI issued a total of 1,853 invitations in 2022, a slight decrease from the 1,933 invitations issued in 2021. While the numbers fluctuated, it's evident that PEI remains a sought-after destination for immigration. In 2022, the majority of invitations (1,729) were directed towards Labour Impact and Express Entry candidates, while the remaining 124 invitations were designated for Business Impact candidates.

Exploring PEI's Immigration Streams

Now, let's delve deeper into the different streams that the PEI PNP offers to prospective immigrants:

Prince Edward Island Express Entry Stream

PEI's Express Entry stream is a pathway for candidates who are already in the federal Express Entry Pool to secure a provincial nomination. What makes this nomination special is that it adds a substantial 600 points to a candidate's Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, virtually guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian immigration.

The Express Entry Category in PEI is further divided into two pathways:

  • Candidates with a Job Offer: This pathway is tailored for candidates who have a job offer in PEI.
  • Candidates Without a Job Offer: This pathway is for candidates who don't have a job offer but possess the qualifications and skills desired by the province.

Prince Edward Island Labour Impact Category

PEI's Labour Impact Category consists of two primary streams:

Skilled Worker Stream

This stream is employer-driven and allows skilled workers with a job offer in PEI to be nominated for Canadian permanent residence. To qualify, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a full-time employment offer from a Prince Edward Island business in an occupation classified as TEER category 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
  • Completed post-secondary education with a minimum of 14 years of formal education.
  • Be between 21 and 55 years of age.
  • Possess at least 2 years of full-time work experience in the past 5 years.
  • Demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English or French to occupy the offered employment.
  • Have sufficient settlement funds.
  • Show a demonstrated intention to settle in Prince Edward Island.

Critical Worker Stream

The Critical Worker Stream is designed to address labor shortages and is open to foreign workers already in PEI. The primary criteria for nomination include:

  • A full-time offer of employment from a Prince Edward Island business in specific critical demand occupations, such as truck drivers, customer service representatives, laborers, food and beverage servers, and housekeeping attendants.
  • At least 6 months of work experience with the Prince Edward Island business offering employment.
  • A current valid Canadian work permit.
  • A high school diploma and a minimum of 12 years of formal education.
  • Age between 21 and 55 years.
  • A minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience in the past 5 years.
  • Basic proficiency in the English or French language.
  • Adequate settlement funds.
  • A demonstrated intention to settle in Prince Edward Island.

Prince Edward Island Business Impact Category

The Business Impact Category in PEI includes the Work Permit Stream. Under this stream, individuals must obtain a Canadian work permit and work for a PEI business for a specified duration as outlined in a Performance Agreement. After successfully fulfilling the Performance Agreement, applicants are required to make a minimum investment of $150,000 in the business and commit to managing the business on a daily basis from within PEI.

It's worth noting that Prince Edward Island had previously operated direct permanent residence business streams. However, these were discontinued in September 2018 due to concerns related to immigration fraud.
